Grave robbing, torture, possessed nuns, and a satanic Sabbath: Benjamin Christensen’s legendary 1922 silent film from Denmark uses a series of dramatic vignettes to explore the scientific hypothesis that the witches of the Middle Ages suffered the same hysteria as turn-of-the-twentieth-century psychiatric patients. But the film itself is far from serious—instead, it’s a witches’ brew of the scary, gross, and darkly humorous. NR / 77 min.

Taking a cue from the 1968 re-release (the cut which we'll be showing as well), the film will feature a live, improvised accompaniment performed by Glenn Wilson and Friends. You will literally never be able to see this film with this accompaniment again, so we hope you can join us for this unique cinema-going experience, perfect for Halloween season.
